ChatGPT visibility tracker
ChatGPT searches the web before it recommends a product, and it names about 14 brands in a typical answer. Yozigo runs your buyer questions in ChatGPT every day and shows whether you are named, where you rank, which pages it cited and what it searched for first.
How does ChatGPT choose which brands to name?
ChatGPT reads widely before answering. In our data it cited a median of 39 sources per answer, far more than any other engine, and named 14 brands on average. It runs about two web searches per answer, and those searches often already contain vendor names, so the brands that appear on popular lists get checked first.
It also verifies vendors on their own sites. In our tracking of AI-visibility buyer questions, ChatGPT ran 1,279 site: searches against vendors’ domains in a month. A clear, factual page about what you sell, what it costs and who it is for is what those checks find.
Which sources does ChatGPT cite?
| Source type | Share of citations |
|---|---|
| Third-party company sites | 72.4% |
| Other vendors’ sites | 8.4% |
| Knowledge hubs (docs, wikis) | 7.4% |
| The asking brand’s own site | 2.1% |
Most-cited public sites in ChatGPT answers: github.com (9.5% of answers), reuters.com (9.3% of answers), linkedin.com (7.1% of answers), g2.com (4.6% of answers). Search queries were visible for 86% of answers.
Figures cover every ChatGPT answer Yozigo recorded for 28 tracked brands from 4–10 October 2026. Customer and competitor domains are left out of the site list. How we collect and classify sources is on the methodology page.
How do you check ChatGPT visibility by hand?
Use a fresh session
Open ChatGPT in a temporary chat so past conversations do not shape the answer.
Ask with search on
Type a real buyer question, such as “best project management tool for agencies”, and make sure ChatGPT searches the web.
Record the answer
Note whether your brand is named, its position in the list, and every source ChatGPT links.
Repeat
Ask the same question on three different days. One answer is a sample, not a ranking.

Frequently asked questions: ChatGPT tracking
Ask ChatGPT your buyers’ questions in a fresh session with web search on, several times over several days, and record whether you are named. A tracker like Yozigo does this daily and keeps the history.
Each answer is generated from a fresh web search and some randomness. In our data ChatGPT named 14 brands on average, and the list shifts day to day, which is why daily tracking matters more than one check.
Yes, in most cases. Yozigo records ChatGPT’s web searches (fan-out queries) for 86% of answers, so you can see which searches led to which sources.
