Does Search Console Show AI Overviews? New AI Report Explained
Google added a Generative AI performance report to Search Console in 2026 and rolled it out to all sites on 31 August. It shows AI Overviews and AI Mode impressions only. What it tells you and what it doesn't.

Does Google Search Console show AI Overviews traffic?
Key takeaways
- Yes, partly: Search Console has a Generative AI performance report covering AI Overviews and AI Mode.
- It counts impressions only: no clicks, queries or position.
- Google rolled it out to all sites on 31 August 2026.
- It doesn't cover ChatGPT, Perplexity or Copilot.
Partly. Google added a Generative AI performance report to Search Console in 2026, and said "as of August 31, 2026, we've rolled out these insights to all websites worldwide" (Search Engine Journal). It shows how many times links to your site appeared in AI Overviews and AI Mode.
What it doesn't show is clicks, the queries that triggered the AI feature, or where your link appeared. Sites with too few AI impressions may not see the report at all.
What does the Generative AI report include?
| Item | What Google provides |
|---|---|
| Metric | Impressions: times links to your site were shown in a generative AI feature |
| Features covered | AI Overviews and AI Mode (Discover has a separate report) |
| Dimensions | Pages, countries, dates, devices, search type (text or multimodal) |
| Not included | Clicks, CTR, position, queries, Search Labs experiments |
| Limits | Standard Performance report limits, such as the 1,000-row cap; newest data may be preliminary |

How do you use the report?
Four checks take about 15 minutes once the report appears for your site.
1. Find your AI-visible pages. Sort by pages to see which URLs Google shows in AI features most. These are your strongest GEO assets; keep them current.
2. Compare with the standard Performance report. Pages with many AI impressions but falling clicks are being read in the answer. That's influence, not failure.
3. Check countries and devices. AI Overview exposure can differ sharply by market.
4. Spot gaps. Important pages with no AI impressions need answer-first sections, clear facts and schema. Our guide to Search Console and Bing for AI visibility covers the fixes.
What does Search Console still not tell you?
It misses 3 things that matter for AI visibility: queries, brand mentions and non-Google engines.
Three important things. First, queries: you can't see which searches triggered an AI Overview with your link. Second, mentions: an AI Overview can name your brand without linking to you, or link without naming you. In Yozigo's data, brands' sites were cited without being named in 4.2% of unbranded AI Overviews. Third, other engines: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini's app and Copilot aren't covered at all.
And AI Overviews cite different kinds of sources from your site: in our citation study, 9.3% of AI Overview citations were YouTube and 4.9% LinkedIn. Search Console only reports your own site's links.
How do you fill the gaps?
Pair it with daily prompt tracking across all 6 major AI engines.
Pair Search Console with prompt tracking. Yozigo runs your buyer questions daily on Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Copilot, records whether you're named and which pages are cited, and imports your Search Console data so tracked prompts reflect real demand (integrations). The 14-day free trial needs no card (pricing).
